Repair or replace?

How we help you decide

We never push a new system. We show both prices, and these are the questions we go through with you.

If a repair makes sense, we'll say so. Most service calls end in a repair, not a sale.

  1. How old is it?Past 12 to 15 years in San Antonio heat, a big repair often isn't worth it.
  2. What refrigerant does it use?Units on R-22 are costly to recharge, since new R-22 hasn't been made in the US since 2020.
  3. What will the repair cost?If it's more than about half the price of a new system, replacing usually makes more sense.
  4. What's your power bill doing?A newer high-efficiency unit can cut summer cooling costs noticeably.

When our 18-year-old unit did need replacing, they showed us three options and didn't push the most expensive one.

About us

Straight answers since 2006

I spent eight years as a service tech for a big company that paid us to sell systems. I started Alamo Comfort to do it the other way around.

Our techs are paid the same whether you repair or replace, so you get an honest answer.
